European Comision and the European Contract Law: "no Civil Code"

At the Conference on European Contract Law hosted by the UK Council Presidency and the European Commission (September 2005) , Markos Kyprianou, Commissioner for Health and Consumer Protection, declared:

(...) I can indeed categorically state that we are not working on a European Civil Code. As early as 2001, in the first consultation round, it was very clear from the responses that this was not the favoured option. So, no Civil Code.
